Policy SIG Co-chair nominee: Skeeve Stevens

Nominee Statement

I have been working for and building internet providers in Australia since 1994 (15 years). For the last 4 years I have been building my own company, eintellego Pty Ltd, based in Sydney Australia. The primary purpose of eintellego is to use our expertise to build, manage and advise tiny-medium ISP and corporate networks on internetworking technologies and the business surrounding it. In our time we have been involved in signing up, managing and requesting resources for over two dozen members, and along the way training them ourselves in proper management of their resources and teaching them especially about justification of resources. We are not an ISP and never intend to be an ISP, but we intend to service the greater ISP and corporate community by supporting their internet technologies. At present our company is developing a programme for Rapid IPv6 training for IT professionals of ISPs and corporates.

In 2009-2010 eintellego plans to expand our services to the Asia Pacific regions with a specific corporate passion of assisting developing nations building their internet infrastructure through both APNIC and the Internet Society.

In the last couple of years, a passion about internet governance and policy has risen in myself, inspired by Mr James Spencely. So I began with my first APNIC in Christchurch 2008 where I mostly observed and began to understand the process. I attended Apricot/APNIC Manila in early 2009, and it is around then that my passion for policy began to develop as I began to understand the policy process and the people and personalities involved.

In 2009 I began to watch (with some participation) the Policy mailing lists of ARIN and RIPE and actively participate in the APNIC mailing lists. I am keenly watching many of the policies that are flowing past, noting what sort of objections people are raising, and learning the style of debate that occurs in different RIR discussion lists.

I believe that the work of the RIR policy groups are critical to influence the ordered and fair management of policies relating to RIRs, especially that of resources conservation.

In this time of change between IPv4 and IPv6, AS2 to AS4 and other challenges that are coming, I believe my passion, skills and ability to participate make me an ideal candidate for Policy SIG co-chair. I believe this position will enable me to gain valuable experience in SIG management and the policy development process. I realise I am a big personality, and vocal in some discussions, but I believe that it will only serve the process to have someone who is passionate about policy. Personally about me, my current passions are comedy, motorcycles, business and IPv6 (yes, I even dream about it) though I am not sure in which order :)
