BoF: Membership Petition

When: 17:30 - 19:00, Wednesday, 25 August 2010
Where: Ballroom
Chair: James Spenceley
Co-chair: Naresh Ajwani

Currently APNIC has a well defined charter and policy development process for discussing and agreeing the development of policy which relates to the management and use of Internet Address resources in the APNIC region.

Recently the POLICY-SIG Chair has received proposals for changes to the APNIC structure itself. As these proposals did not fit the charter of the POLICY-SIG they were rejected from this forum. Since then the APNIC EC has been working on finding a structure or way for such proposals to be addressed by the membership. This BoF was formed to discuss the topic.

This is the first occasion APNIC has received proposals to change the structure of the organization, as APNIC is a dynamic organization, the Executive Council is taking proactive steps to implement a "Membership Petition Process". Following comments and feedback at this BoF, the process will be drafted by the Executive Council and presented at the next meeting in Hong Kong.

Format:

As the Executive Council has already received 3 proposals, it decided the best option would be to discuss these proposals at the BoF in parallel with the discussion and creation of the MPP (Membership Petition Process).

  • Part one of the BOF will highlight and discuss the possible procedures and structure for the Membership Petition Process.
  • Part two will be a presentation by the Authors of the current proposals and discussion by the membership.
